The Interesting Case of the Starbucks $4.00/2

So, there is a new Starbucks coupon out, but people are having all sorts of trouble with it.

If you go here, you will find a printable coupon for $4.00 off of any two Starbucks coffee products.

This has great potential.  Right now there is a moneymaker at Rite Aid:

Starbucks Frappucino 13.7 oz, on sale for $2.00
Get $1.00 in +UP Rewards when you buy two Starbucks Singles, limit 2

Use $4.00/2 - Starbucks Coffee products printable manufacturer’s coupon

Pay nothing, get $1.00 in +UP Rewards

Net Price: $1.00 Moneymaker

Here's the catch, it will beep at the register saying there is no valid product in the order.

Why is that?

One would have a hard time arguing that a Frappucino is not a coffee product.  We would have to speculate what they meant by this coupon, but that seems silly.  All the manufacturer gives us is the text of the coupon. This coupon has a ton of potential for great deals, including moneymakers.  Manufacturers have a responsibility to be specific in their wording on the coupon and should have to be responsible if they word it poorly so people use it on things other than what they intended.

So go, get an amazing deal on coffee and if they tell you its not valid, tell them to read the coupon.  And if they refuse to take it, let them know you'll find another store that will take Starbuck the money from Starbucks.

A coupon is only as good as the words on it and should be judged by those words rather than some vague "intent."  (I also have to laugh at the excuse that you can only get what's on the picture of the coupon, you'll have some cashiers tell you that. :P)

If you see any freebies or Moneymakers or great deals I missed, please let me know.
